The MD Ba Vi Retreat is a family-run eco-retreat and cultural experience center located in Yên Bài commune, on the western outskirts of Hanoi. Nestled in a peaceful valley near Ba Vi National Park and overlooking the sacred Ba Vi Mountain (often called the “Olympia Mountain of Vietnam”), it offers an authentic escape from the city’s hustle into rural Vietnamese life.
Just over an hour’s drive from Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the property sits amid quiet villages, tranquil farms, winding rivers, lush paddy fields, and mountain landscapes. Ba Vi Mountain holds deep mythological significance in Vietnamese legends about the origins of the Vietnamese people. Guests experience the contrast between urban modernization and enduring rural traditions during Vietnam’s “Thriving Era.” Nearby attractions include Ba Vi National Park (about 4.7 km away), with its forests, French colonial ruins, and the Ho Chi Minh Temple at higher elevations.
The retreat specializes in immersive “day-in-the-life” experiences rather than conventional tourism:
The MD Ba Vi Retreat offers cozy rooms and cottages in a garden setting, with amenities that include free Wi-Fi, free private parking, a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, balcony/terrace, 24-hour front desk, and garden views. Guests praise the peaceful atmosphere, organic home-cooked meals, and warm hospitality of the Manh family.
This is not a large commercial resort. It is a small, personal base for authentic connection: unscripted moments with locals, insight into how urbanization is reshaping rural Vietnam, and a genuine taste of countryside life and cuisine. Ideal for travelers seeking culture, nature, food experiences, and a meaningful break from Hanoi — far from tourist crowds and close to the heart of rural Vietnam.
This program takes guests away from the pace of city life to explore the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, where the identities of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups are vividly recreated like a miniature Vietnam. The journey continues to the peaceful countryside of Ba Vì, where visitors can explore local heritage sites, experience an organic farm, enjoy traditional cuisine, and relax amid fresh natural surroundings.
